“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.”

–Maya Angelou

Our mission is to operate a studio that teaches the fundamentals in art & design, stimulates public involvement in the arts, and provides a workspace for unplugging and experiencing the therapeutic benefits of creative expression. Opportunities are available for homeschooled students, young artists and teens after-school, workshops for adults on the weekends and private instruction.

Old-School ART Studio currently offers instruction in Drawing, Printmaking, Painting, Mixed Media, Ceramics and Sewing & Embroidery. Our studio is housed in the heart of downtown Richmond,VT.

You are welcome to visit and tour the studio before signing up for classes & workshops. Please call ahead if you would like to do so.

Abby Still, owner.

Welcome! After teaching for 15 years in various schools and studios, I opened Old-School ART Studio in 2022 to create a space that allows me to assist others in learning and engaging with their creative expression: whether that is undiscovered, newly discovered, or well on its way. For me, Old-School is a nostalgic concept: to move to a simpler way of being. This is reflected in the work we do at the studio: teaching fundamental skills in the more primitive, everyday arts.

My personal work is predominately in ceramics and textiles, although I am skilled and enjoy teaching most media to people of all ages. Young children are completely liberated from expectations and can create from a space of true authenticity. Tweens & teens move inward and create from a quieter and nervous place. They benefit from smaller groups and personal connections. And adults have the depth of life experiences to draw from. Many are eager and possibly even desperate to carve out a sliver of time for themselves. This period of life brings is a more self-assured time to (re)discover that art feels good and is therapeutic, whether you need “therapy” or not . All of these life stages can be tender and require different teaching methods.

When not in the studio, I enjoy gardening, hosting dinner parties, hiking with my dogs, practicing yoga and trying to squeeze in any time I can with my teenage children.
